OTS OVERVIEW

Purpose

Create a national ordinance tracking database to provide standardized information regarding alarm ordinances and jurisdictional policies to the alarm industry.

Reason

SIAC has been aware that there is interest in the industry for a centralized Ordinance Tracking System (database) The availability of this information has become a critical issue as expressed by all the national companies, regional alarm companies, third party national monitoring centers, affiliated associations, and proprietary monitoring providers.

Law Enforcement is looking for a resource that can provide comparative information on ordinances - particularly for cities of like size - for the purpose of developing future ordinances, or improving upon existing ones.

Structure, Control and Access

The structure of the database was defined and developed with the help of ADT, Brink's Home Security and Vector Security; Control and administration by SIAC.

The ordinance database, named Ordinance Tracking System (OTS), resides this website maintained by SIAC. The information is available to participating companies, and accessible by other entities either by subscription or other means as determined by the SIAC Board of Directors. The site is secured and password protected in order to maintain control of the integrity of the data. A conscientious effort has been made to avoid the misuse of the information in the database through misinterpretation, misrepresentation, or to derive profit. E-mail addresses will be the username for login and a unique password will be created for each user.

Various access levels have been incorporated into the system:
  • General Public - allows anyone with an email address minimal access and search capability.
  • Alarm Industry - bona fide alarm dealers with email will have additional access to resources with additional privileges given to members of CSAA, NBFAA, SIA and CANASA.
  • Media - Additional/special search access above general public level
  • Law Enforcement: Special access with the additional ability of department authorized personnel to make changes to their respective information contained on our website.
