Glen Mowrey Receives SIAC’s Moody Award at ESX

Stan Martin, SIAC, presents the 2016 William N. Moody award to Glen Mowrey, SIAC.

Frisco, Texas (June 10, 2016) – Glen Mowrey, National Law Enforcement Liaison for the Security Industry Alarm Coalition, was recognized with the William N. Moody Award for his leadership in building partnerships between public safety agencies and the alarm industry. Started in 2004 by the Security Industry Alarm Coalition (SIAC), the Moody award is given annually to an individual who demonstrates a passion for advancing positive alarm management and best industry practices.

“For more than 12 years, Glen has worked tirelessly and effectively to help achieve our mission of promoting positive alarm management, best industry practices and a strong working relationship with leaders in the public safety field,” said Stan Martin, Executive Director of SIAC. “Glen is a Life Member of the International Association of the Chiefs of Police, a member of the National Sheriffs’ Association, an ASIS International Law Enforcement Liaison Council Member and a member of 15 State Associations of Chiefs of Police.”

Prior to joining SIAC, Mowrey spent 36 years in law enforcement with the Miami-Dade (FL) Police Department and the Charlotte-Mecklenburg (NC) Police Department, retiring as Deputy Chief of Police in Charlotte.

“One of Glen’s most innovative strategies was the creation of the Alarm Management Committee,” said Stan Martin, SIAC executive director. “The committees comprise three police chiefs and three hand-picked industry members and are coordinated by SIAC, working under the auspices of the State’s Police Chiefs Associations. The committees are now in 15 states, with others planned.
“Through the committees’ work, Glen has been instrumental in the development and adoption of each state’s Model Alarm Ordinances; the development of an Enhanced Call Verification (ECV) resolution; and enacting ECV as state law in several of the states. He’s working with over 100 agencies in developing Alarm Ordinances and Alarm Management Programs, some reaching reductions of near 80 percent,” added Martin.
Mowrey is the recipient of numerous professional, community and civic honors, including two FBI Director’s Community Leadership Awards, Miami-Dade (FL) Police Officer of the Year, the Florida Jaycees’ Outstanding Young Police Officer of the Year, Mecklenburg County Employee of the Year, the Order of the Long Leaf Pine - North Carolina Governor’s Highest Award for Extraordinary Service, National Boy Scouts of America Court of Honor’s Silver Beaver Award, and National Law Enforcement Official of the Year Award by the Electronic Security Association.
He has been honored with the establishing of the Glen Mowrey Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Activities League’s Annual Scholarship Awards as well as the N.C. D.A.R.E. Officers Association’s Glen Mowrey Law Enforcement Official of the Year Award, awarded annually to a Police Chief or Sheriff. Another Mowrey innovation is the SIAC Director’s Award of Distinction which has been presented to dozen of agencies nationwide. He also serves as Chair of the Alarm Industry’s Research and Education Foundation (AIREF) Research Committee and has over seen four national industry studies.
