Having just returned from the Arizona Alarm Convention, SIAC was part of a discussion group made up of dealers in the Phoenix area and several police department alarm coordinators including Phoenix, Prescott, Tempe and others. The purpose for this particular meeting was to communicate issues and concerns between parties.
Law enforcement expressed several areas they needed dealers to correct or help with. Dealers were given the opportunity to voice concerns with PD’s or have policies or enforcement provisions explained. It was an outstanding session, professionally facilitated by the Tempe Alarm Coordinator Becky Buchannon (formerly with Phoenix PD).
We believe this practice should be conducted in every state association meeting. Dealers getting to know the alarm coordinators and vice versa is invaluable in establishing professional relationships.
Dealers learn as we here at SIAC have known for many years that the vast majority of these departments are open to suggestions and looking for solutions to help reduce unnecessary dispatches and/or misunderstandings. Several departments stated they had the authority to dismiss or waive fines to citizens if they were certain systems were being fixed.
We recommend other states consider this approach. SIAC is here to help you along this path.
