At 8:30 in the evening one night last week, one of our trusty SIAC staff members, Ron Walters, received a call from an alarm dealer in Shawnee, Kansas. He’d just heard about SIAC’s involvement in the soon to be announced Verified Response (VR) effort. His first thought was: “Here’s someone else who’s
not involved and is out of touch.”

Then Ron listened to his story.

The alarm dealer is admittedly a small shop but derives his livelihood from getting up every morning and going out there and working. He’s afraid of what VR might do to his business and at one point his voice may actually have begun to crack as he asked what the impact of VR might be on his business and his customers.

Mind you, it was 8:30 and he was on his way to his last call of the night. Some of us remember days like that. Ron was instantly brought back to those memories.

WHAT WE DO IS IMPORTANT!!!! While Ron, for one, admits he can be quick to criticize those that don’t get involved, he had forgotten what it is like to be working 12 hours a day, six days a week just to make a living.
That’s pretty much the story. It’s just a reminder that we need to keep in mind how important
what we do is to so many people.
